Apple’s founder Steve Jobs reportedly sent an e-mail to a customer that iPhones and iPads are not being used to track users, according to a U.S. website on Monday.
“We don’t track anyone. The info circulating around is false,” wrote Apple CEO Jobs in an e-mail to a customer asking for clarification on the issue, MacRumors reported.
The blog says that the customer forwarded the e-mail exchange to its editors.
On the question about Android phones not tracking gadget owners, Jobs reportedly wrote, “Oh yes they do.”
Apple did not immediately respond to a request to verify the authenticity of this e-mail exchange, CNN reported.
Pointing out that Jobs has a history of communicating with Apple fans through e-mails, MacRumors said: “As is Jobs’ usual style, his brief comments provide little detail or information to support his claims, and his vagueness leaves things rather open to interpretation.”
MacRumors is a U.S. website mostly posting news, rumors and reports on Mac and Apple.
Last week, Apple was slammed by media reports that the company has been accumulating location information about its users.
Government agencies around the world have launched investigations into the situation, requesting Apple address the privacy concerns. On Monday, Korea Communications Commission said it would be communicating with Apple Korea on the matter.

잡스, 이메일 통해 아이폰 위치정보수집 부인?
애플의 아이폰이 이용자의 동의없이 위치정보를 수집해온 사실이 공개된 후 파문이 확산되고 있는 가운데 이 회사의 최 고경영자(CEO)인 스티브 잡스가 이를 강하게 부인하는 반응을 보였다고 씨넷 등 미 국 현지 언론들이 25일 '맥루머'라는 온라인 매체를 인용해 보도했다.
현재 병가 중인 잡스는 고객이 보낸 관련 내용을 확인하는 이메일에 특유의 간결한 어투로 답신을 통해 "우리는 누구도 추적하지 않는다"고 주장했다는 것.
하지만, 애플은 이 이메일의 진위에 대해 확인해 주지 않고 있다고 현지 언론들은 전했다.
맥루머닷컴이 이날 오전에 공개한 바에 따르면 이 온라인 매체의 한 독자는 잡스에게 "내 아이폰에 내장된 위치추적프로그램에 대해 설명해 달라"며 "내 정확한 위치가 매시간 기록된다는 것은 실망스러운 것이다. 당신은 (구글 안드로이드의) 드 로이드로 바꾸기 전에 이에 대해 설명해 줄 수 있을 것 같다. 그들은 (내 위치를) 추적하지 않는다"는 내용의 이메일을 보냈다.
이에 대해 잡스는 '아이폰을 통해 보내진 것'으로 돼 있는 답신에서"아니다. 그들(안드로이드)은 (위치추적을) 한다"며 "주변에 돌고 있는 정보는 거짓이다"라고 말했다는 것이다.
씨넷은 잡스가 과거 여러차례 공개된 법인 이메일 계정을 통해 개인 고객들의 이메일 질문에 답을 한 적이 있지만 최근 몇달 사이에는 이 같은 접촉이 이뤄진 적 이 없었다고 전했다.
