Four teenagers have been charged with the gang rape of an English teacher in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province.
The three university students and one unemployed man are accused of taking turns raping the 24-year-old hagwon teacher at a motel on April 12 after meeting her at a bar.
The teacher, who is from the U.S., had been drinking with the men after friends she had been with left, according to Anyang police.
The men reportedly drank with the victim until she was heavily intoxicated before taking her to the motel where the assault took place. The case has been forwarded to a public prosecutors’ office.
The men, who are all 18 years old and from South Korea, are also accused of stealing cash and a cellphone worth 800,000 won ($740).
One of the accused was quoted by police as saying, “We didn’t plan to rape her from the beginning. At first we just approached her to drink with her, but the thought came up as she got really drunk.”
Police said none of the men had any prior record of sexual assault.
The women told work colleagues of the assault the next day and the police were contacted.
The victim has been working as a hagwon teacher here for six months.
