Korean jazz singer Na Youn-sun has won the Echo Jazz 2011 award in the international female vocalist category.
The award is presented by the German Phono Academy, the cultural institute of the federal association of the music industry. The award ceremony will take place on June 17 at the Glaserne Manufaktur of Volkswagen in Dresden.
According to Yonhap news agency, 42-year-old Na received rave reviews of her seventh jazz album “Same Girl” released in Europe last September. In January, this year, she was honored with the French jazz award, L’Academie du Jazz. Her seventh album has topped the French jazz chart for four straight weeks, and stayed in the top 10 for 30 weeks in a row.
A recently launched French jazz magazine, “Jazz News,” decorated the cover page of its first issue with her photo and published a six-page feature on her success story.
