GreenTouch, a global consortium of wireless service operators, research institutions and non-governmental groups, said Thursday it would hold a forum on sustainable networks and climate change in Seoul next week.

The forum, which will take place at Seoul National University on April 8, will unveil the scope of key GreenTouch projects and showcase a proof of concept technology called the GreenTouch Large-Scale Antenna System that has potential to save energy through applying wireless transmission techniques, officials said.

Industry experts will also head two sessions, making presentations on topics including energy-efficient network technologies, eco-sustainability and climate change, they added.

Established last January, the consortium is led by Bell Labs and includes several well-known global and local firms, as well as organizations like Seoul National University, KT Corp., Electronics and Telecommunication Research Institute, Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, AT&T, China Mobile, France Telecom Orange, Huawei and Columbia University.

“The consortium is growing rapidly as new members join and the research projects being undertaken by our various working groups are putting us on track to meet our goal,” said Gee Rittenhouse, GreenTouch chairman and vice president of research at Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs.

“We look forward to sharing our knowledge and progress at this open forum session.”
