What is success? If we know, how can we achieve it then?
A 60-year-old CEO who realized his American dream recently unveiled the secret to the success of his business.
Steve Kim (Kim Yun-jong), mostly known as Asia`s Bill Gates, gave a lecture titled "Success through the Challenges, Preparation of the Happiness" at Seoul Women`s University, on Tuesday.
During an hour and a half long lecture, he explained to the young students that the key to his success was diligence and the American life style. Kim said when he moved to the United States in his 20s, he worked for eight hours every day and studied at a graduate school every night.
The American corporation culture oriented by experience and ability also enabled him to only focus on work, he said.
He also emphasized the importance of setting an achievable and measurable goal and taking it one step at a time. According to Kim, a small success leads to a big success in the end.
"Do what you want to do, and don`t be afraid of failure. Do not waste time. Just do it now." the CEO said.
Born in 1949, Kim grew up poor in Seoul. He moved to the United States in 1976 with only $2,000 in his pocket.
Kim founded Fibermux Corp., a computer network supplier in 1984 and became recognized through getting an order from NASA.
His second corporation Xylan made its stock market debut on the NASDAQ in 1996 and marked 300 percent growth on that year. Xylan then grew into a global enterprise that has 1,500 employees and sixty overseas branches in three years after its foundation.
In 1999, Kim sold Xylan to French corporation Alcatel for $2 billion and came back to Korea with his family in 2007. At that time he founded the Dreams, Hopes, Future Foundation, becoming a philanthropist and having carried out "Noblesse Oblige" since then.
Kim is currently the CEO of SYK Global Inc. also, and his autobiography "Dream, Hope, Future" was published in June. Kim said that he named the book to wish the young generation to live their bright future with hopes and dreams.
