A Florida man alleged doused his ex-girlfriend with gasoline at a convenience store and set her on fire early Monday, authorities said.
Roosevelt Mondesir, 52, of Lake Worth was in custody on an attempted murder charge and his alleged victim, Naomie Breton, 34, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.
The attack took place about 3 a.m. at a 7-Eleven store in Boynton Beach, where the two were to meet to exchange custody of their 4-year-old son, the newspaper said.
Breton can be seen in surveillance video trying to get away from a man armed with a knife.
"Get away from me!" the woman yells as she tries to keep the assailant from getting in the store.
He then drags her outside and moments later she can be seen engulfed in flames.
A store clerk called 911.
Mondesir ran off and was arrested about 2 hours later after police found him hiding in some nearby bushes.
Breton, a mother of three who has known Mondesir since 2003, left him in March and had unsuccessfully sought a restraining order against him May 29, alleging he had threatened her, court records show.
A Palm Beach County judge ruled there wasn't enough evidence to warrant the order, the newspaper said. (UPI)
