A jury of 12 in Quebec City Thursday found a 77-year-old retired Quebec provincial judge guilty of the first-degree murder of his wife.

The verdict against Jacques Delisle, 77, came after three days of deliberations about the shooting death of 71-year-old Marie-Nicole Rainville in November 2009, The (Montreal) Gazette reported.

The murder conviction is thought to be the first ever for a Canadian judge, the newspaper said.

Delisle testified when he went into the couple's condo, he found his disabled wife dead on a couch with a pistol at her side and a bullet wound to the head.

The woman had a stroke two years earlier that paralyzed her right side. Months before her death, she fell and broke her hip and was in physiotherapy when she died.

Delisle told the court his wife was depressed about the loss of brain function the stroke had caused and was even more depressed after her hip surgery.

However, details emerged during the trial the former judge was having an affair with a former secretary and wanted to avoid a costly divorce from his wife, the newspaper said.

The 57-year-old secretary testified she was preparing to move in with Delisle when he was arrested in 2010. (UPI)

캐나다에서 판사가 저지른 살인사건에 대해 첫 유죄 판결이 나왔다.

캐나다 퀘벡 시 지방법원은 14일(현지시간) 항소법원 전직 판사인 자크 델리슬(75)의 부인 살해 혐의에 대해 유죄 판결을 내렸다고 현지언론들이 전했다.

법원은 이날 지난 2009년 11월12일 부인 니콜 라인빌의 살인범으로 기소된 델리 슬에 대해 2년6개월 간 진행된 재판의 결심 공판에서 이같이 판결했다.

이로써 델리슬은 캐나다에서 살인을 저지른 첫 판사로 기록됐다.

당시 델리슬은 심장 마비로 반신불수 상태에 빠진 부인이 권총으로 자살했다고 경찰에 진술, 사건이 자살로 마무리되는 듯 했으나 경찰의 끈질긴 수사로 사건 발생 7개월 뒤 범인으로 기소됐다.

델리슬은 법관 재직 시절 여비서와 내연의 관계였으며, 부인을 권총으로 살해한 뒤 구급차를 불러 자살로 위장하려 했던 것으로 드러났다.

재판 중 델리슬은 부인이 처지를 비관해 자살했다며 1급 살인혐의에 대해 무죄를 주장해 왔다.

반면 경찰은 부인 라인빌의 손바닥에서 자살자에게서 나올 수 없는 화약흔을 발견했고, 총탄이 발사된 탄도 등으로 미루어 자살이 아니라고 반박했다.

지난 5월 재판에서는 델리슬이 사건 신고를 받고 출동한 구급차 응급요원들에 게 부인의 유언임을 들어 구급조치를 취하지 말 것을 요구했다는 증언이 나와 그의 혐의가 짙어졌다.
