Ulsan’s Industrial Theater Troupe is returning with a rapid-fire performance of short plays this weekend.

“Into the Light” features 30 plays performed in random order over 60 minutes.

This is the Industrial Theater Troupe’s third production in this format, after last summer’s “Too Much Light” and February’s “Fade to Black.”

“We changed the name the second time and now again for our current show so that people would not assume it is exactly the same as previous performances,” said Pete Musto, the show’s producer.

“As with the previous two shows, we currently have 30 brand new plays written by our actors.”

Musto said the cast had almost entirely changed since the first production, with he, director Danielle Malson and host Philip Brett being the only original members.

But he was quick to praise the strength of the performers that appeared in the last production, and said that the new additions to the cast had created a good combination of an established format with new twists.

“While Danielle and I feel as though we have mastered the formula for what we aim to achieve with the Industrial Theater Troupe, it is always exciting to introduce new elements and fresh perspectives to the show,” he said.

They had also recruited Busan International Foreign School student Kyle Walton, who Musto said had been instrumental in setting up the technical aspects of the show.

Musto said that there would be the extensive audience participation of the previous shows, but that there would be plenty new about the performance.

“As we have an entirely new set of plays this time around, I can only suggest that the audience should expect the unexpected,” he said. “Those who have seen our previous shows may recognize similar themes of the intricacies of love, sex and relationships in such scenes as ‘Wait, What?’ and ‘Intro to Concupiscent Lit.’

“However, many will be excited to see some bold new ideas expressed on topics that vary from drug abuse to the absurdity of materialistic culture in such scenes as ‘Toxic Relationship’ and ‘Pray For What We Want, To Hell With What We Need.’”

The shows are on Friday at 9 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. at Dongrami Theater in Ulsan. Tickets are 15,000 won and can be reserved in advance by contacting theindustrialtheatertroupe@gmail.com or (052) 258-1248.
