The parents of a U.S. teen allegedly bullied by his teacher and classmates have called for the teacher’s dismissal, according to local news reports.

“I think that somebody who can allow this to happen and participate has no business being in a classroom,” the teen’s mother Karla Kinney said in an interview with ABC News. “When I drop my kids off, I‘m dropping them off as a parent handing my kids to a school that is going to take care of them.”

It has recently been revealed that a 13-year-old boy at Kopachuk Middle School in Washington had been physically abused by his fellow eighth-graders in February, while his teacher John Rosi did nothing to prevent it, and even joined in on the abuse.

In disturbing video footage that emerged last week, the victim is hoisted by his arms and legs and is dragged around the classroom. The bullies, while giggling and making fun of the boy, stuff a pair of socks into his mouth and even try to take off his shirt.

Rosi, after watching this obvious act of abuse for several minutes, pokes him in the stomach and pretends to sit on him, saying, “I’m feeling kind of gassy.” He later explained that he did not consider the incident to be bullying and merely thought it was “harmless childhood horseplay.”

When district officials learned of the incident, Rosi was suspended for 10 days without pay. The boy’s parents were not content with the punishment and demanded that the teacher be fired.

“Rosi is completely ignorant of the fact that he’s got a whole classroom hazing one kid,” said the boy’s father Randal Kinney. He said his son even considered suicide.

“He told me, ‘I want to die. I want to kill myself,’” Kinney said.

이 사건으로 인해 피해 소년은 큰 충격을 받았으며, 분노한 소년의 부모는 로지를 해고하라고 요구하기에 이르렀다.

“이런 일이 일어나도록 방치하는 사람은 교실에 있을 이유가 없어요”라고 소년의 어머니 칼라 키니 씨는 말했다. “제가 아이들을 학교에 데려다 줄 때에는 아이들을 돌봐줄 거라고 생각하고 데려다 주는 거라고요”

소년의 아버지 랜달 키니 씨는 아이가 자신에게 “죽고 싶어요. 자살하고 싶다고요”라고 말했다며 “로지는 반 전체가 학생 한명을 괴롭혔다는 사실을 전혀 모르고 있었다”라고 분노를 표했다.

로지는 이 사건이 집단 괴롭힘인 줄 몰랐고, 아이들끼리 악의없이 하는 장난인 줄 알았다고 변명했다.

한편 로지는 이 사건으로 인해 당국으로부터 10일 정직처분을 받았다.
