WASHINGTON (Yonhap News) ― A U.S. think tank has launched a special website on modern Korean history that features a rare collection of declassified documents from dozens of countries.

The online Modern Korean History Portal was developed by the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C.

The institute has operated the History and Public Policy Program to find little-known episodes in inter-Korean, U.S.-Korean and North Korea-communist bloc relations, and analyze them.

“The historical documents presented in the ever-expanding Modern Korean History Portal provide fresh, policy-relevant insights into the recent history of the two Koreas,” the center said Sunday in a press release.

By adding global context to events on the Korean Peninsula, it added, the Modern Korean History Portal not only adds to Korean history but also changes some of the ways in which we see the two Koreas and their roles in the world.

The new website is a result of three years of work by the HAPP team with support from IT, communications and others in the center, it said.

It plans to hold a press conference on Thursday on the launch of the website.
