The top-tier South Korean ladies’ golf tour will kick off in April with the most-ever amount of purse up for grabs.
The Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association announced Tuesday that its 24 tournaments this year will offer 13.6 billion won ($12.1 million) in total purse, up 1.6 billion won from a year ago. There are also two more events in 2011 than last year.
The KLPGA also said eight of its 24 events will be a four-round competition, while the rest will be three-round, 54-hole affairs.
Women’s golf in South Korea has been bolstered in recent years by rising young stars such as Shin Ji-yai, Choi Na-yeon and Seo Hee-kyung. All three have gone on to notch victories on the U.S. LPGA Tour.
