“If I stay injury free and have time to adapt properly to how the team and the club works, then I believe it will be a great season,” Ji said on the club’s official website.
The Korean international had his first training session with Sunderland on Friday.
“This is the first time Ji has worked with his team mates and he seemed to enjoy the session,” Sunderland AFC manager Steve Bruce said in a statement.
“We are excited to see more of Ji in action with the rest of our new signings,” the manager added.
Ji and his new club are now in Germany as part of their pre-season tour. On Sunday, the 187-cm-tall striker played 45 minutes in his new club’s 1-1 draw with third-division side Arminia Bielefeld.
Ji is now expected to play Wednesday against Bundesliga side Hannover 96.
The former Chunnam Drgaons striker signed a three-year deal worth around $3.2 million with Sunderland in June.
