The electronics sector is one of the fastest growing industries in Mexico in terms of export potential and employment generation.

Mexico manufactures a wide range of electronic products from audio and video, telecommunications, computer equipment and equipment parts to medical and commercial products.

To highlight the many different avenues in which Korean firms can take part in the Mexican electronics sector, the embassy and the Mexican Trade and Investment Agency (Promexico) are holding their first electronics seminar in South Korea.

Titled “Mexico Electronics Hub in the Americas: It’s time to produce in Mexico,” the seminar will be held on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Shilla Hotel.

“This event has the purpose to present in detail the new developments on the electronics sector in Mexico and the competitive advantages that it represents for FDI (foreign direct investments),” said Mexican Ambassador Martha Ortiz de Rosas.

Among the topics in the presentations are: Mexico’s economic outlook, electronic sector overview and business opportunities for South Korean companies, Mexican legal and tax framework, and success stories in Mexico.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hold prearranged one-on-one meetings with speakers of their choice.

The electronics industry in Mexico accounted for 20 percent of total exports in 2009.

Mexico has more than 690 industrial plants, which directly generated over 315,000 jobs in the same year.

Today, Mexico is the second largest exporter of television sets in the world, as well as the world’s third exporter of refrigerators and freezers, and the fourth global exporter of cellular telephones, according to Promexico.
