For the Week of the Francophonie held throughout the world, the Canadian Embassy and Quebec Provincial Office in Seoul are organizing an event to showcase Canada’s place in the French world.

Set for March 29, the event titled “Canada and La Francophonie” will feature a presentation on French Canadian universities and an advanced screening of the 2011 Oscar nominated French Canadian film “Incendies.”

The film will be shown with Korean subtitles and will be released in South Korea this summer.

This free event is open to the public and runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Through the event, the embassy wants to highlight how Canadians play an international role in the areas of language and culture, politics, the economy, new technology and cooperation.

Membership in La Francophonie is an important part of Canada’s foreign policy, reflecting Canada’s linguistic duality, as well as the importance that Canada attaches to cultural diversity, peace, democracy, human rights, and solidarity.

The International Organisation of La Francophonie encompasses 56 states and governments and 14 observers from all five continents, who are united by French as a common language.
