Korea finalized a roadmap for standardization of technologies for smart grids, electric cars, nuclear energy, the 3D industry, cloud computing, smart media, smart logistics and smart medical information.

National standardization coordinators and industrial experts worked together on the roadmap for standardization of the nation’s technologies in eight major areas, unveiled by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Knowledge Economy on Thursday.

In the electric car area, for instance, technological standardization is sought separately for vehicles, infrastructure and networks, with 11 priority tasks.

KATS will seek international standardization for not only charging infrastructure such as connectors, but also batteries and vehicle systems.

The KATS will push for international standardization of e-learning and electric publications, and run pilot programs through cooperation among the central government, local governments and businesses.

Korea plans to pursue collaboration with Japan and China for technological standardization in smart logistics.

Standardization will also be sought for next-generation atomic power plant design codes, nuclear safety and protection facilities as well as nuclear fuel.

“Standardization in strategic industrial areas will be carried out by inducing cooperation between companies rather than governments,” the KATS said in a press release. “We plan to capture the global market through joint strategies with global corporations such as joint proposal of international standardization.”
