(Yonhap News) -- KT Corp., South Korea’s top fixed-line operator, on Tuesday resumed services for Internet-enabled TVs produced by Samsung Electronics Co., four days after it restricted access to its high-speed network, the country's telecommunications watchdog said.
The service was resumed at 5:30 p.m. under an agreement reached by the two parties, the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) said in a statement.
KT restricted Samsung's smart TVs from accessing its network on Friday, claiming they "free-ride" and slow other users' access to the Internet. KT and other fixed-line operators have asked smart TV producers since last June to pay money in return for using its Internet network.
Following the resumption of Internet services, Samsung will drop an injunction it filed with a local court to block KT's earlier move, the KCC said.
The agreement, arbitrated by the KCC, compels the two companies to work together for the development of the domestic information and communications technology industry and jointly set up a committee handling smart TVs, the watchdog said.
