Japanese watch manufacturer Casio announced plans on Wednesday to put a function into wristwatches that allows users to control their smartphone with only their watch.

Bluetooth 4.0 technology in the new G-SHOCK series will allow users to find out about incoming calls, texts, emails, and more through alarms or vibrations from the watch. Also, users wearing a piece from the new Casio line will be able to locate their phone by pressing a button on their watch which will ring an alarm from the phone.

Casio hopes to start showcasing the new watches starting next month. They plan on releasing five models with circular faces in October and four models with rectangular faces in November.

'스마트폰 연동'되는 손목시계 출시

일본 전자시계 메이커인 카시오는 손목시계에 스마트폰 기능을 연동한 제품을 출시할 계획이라고 5일 발표했다.

카시오는 애플의 아이폰 4S 등 여러 기종의 스마트폰과 블루투스로 기능을 연동한 ‘G-SHOCK’ 손목시계 라인을 다음 달부터 차례로 선보일 예정이다.

근거리 무선 네트워킹 기술인 블루투스 기술을 채용한 카시오 손목시계는 연동된 스마트폰이 전화를 수신하거나 알람이 울릴 경우 진동으로 시계를 찬 사람에게 알려주게 된다.

또한 G-SHOCK 시리즈 시계를 찬 사람은 시계의 버튼을 눌러 스마트폰의 벨을 울 리게 해 폰의 위치를 찾을 수 있다.

스마트폰 연동 카시오 손목시계의 원형 모델 5개는 10월에 출시되고 이어 4각형 모델 4개가 11월에 나올 예정이다.
