The chief of SK Planet, a local mobile platform provider, on Thursday spoke of how big data can be utilized for maximum results.
“Now, the key questions that we have to ask are not “What is big data?” but rather “How can we utilize big data in the real business world?” and “What kind of values should we create for our customers through big data?” said So Jin-woo, CEO of SK Planet in a keynote speech at the Mobile World Congress being held in Spain this week.
“I believe we can find the answers in mobile.”

Big data, a term used to describe massive volumes of both structured and unstructured data so large that they are difficult to process, is becoming a large part of people lives in the mobile era, in which data plays a significant role.
“Mobile phones are more than tools for communication. They are a means to collect and send data, and a medium closely attached to the customer through which data enters and exits,” So said.
To take advantage of the changes and opportunities brought on by big data, companies must recognize what the customers are talking about, where they are going, how their interests are changing, and what content they are consuming through their mobile phones.
So also noted that Korea has become a leader in mobile services and technology, mainly due to its eagerness to follow and create new trends.
“Koreans have accepted and adapted to the changes in the mobile paradigm faster than any others,” the CEO said.
He stressed that thanks to both Korea’s fast-adapting culture and data-tailored services such as the navigation service provider T Map, digital content market T Store, commerce platform 11st and loyalty program OK Cashbag, SK Planet has been at the forefront of connecting customers to the content and data of their choice.
