LG launches LTE-based smartwatch on home turf

March 26, 2015 - 11:30 By KH디지털2

South Korea's No. 2 tech firm, LG Electronics Inc., said Thursday it will roll out its latest long-term evolution network-powered smartwatch in the country with a price tag of 650,000 won ($589) later this week.

The LG Watch Urbane LTE, which comes with its own universal subscriber identity module card that allows users to make phone calls without being paired with smartphones, will be available starting Friday through LG Uplus Corp., the country's smallest mobile carrier.

The smart device was first showcased at the Mobile World Congress last month.

The smartwatch will be equipped with a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and run on the Android Wear platform. It comes with a 1.3-inch plastic organic light-emitting diode and a 700mAh battery.

It can be linked to all smartphones that run on the Android 4.4 platform or higher. LG said the corrosion- and scratch-resistant metal body and leather strap will prevent possible damage from everyday use.

LG said it has not yet decided the launch schedule of the model in overseas markets, adding it will depend on the sales performance at home. (Yonhap)
