China said Thursday that it had "no information" on a media report that Beijing has invited North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to an event in September marking the end of World War II.
  

Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying gave the response, when asked about the report by the Wall Street Journal that Kim has been invited to the Sept. 3 military parade to be hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
  

"I have no information on that," Hua said, without elaborating further.
  

China is scheduled to hold the military parade with foreign leaders being invited to attend, but Beijing has sidestepped questions on which foreign countries' leaders were invited.
  

China is North Korea's economic lifeline, but Kim has not visited Beijing since taking power in late 2011.
  

Political ties between North Korea and China remain strained due to the North's defiant pursuit of nuclear weapons.
  

South Korean President Park Geun-hye has also been invited to the Chinese military parade, but no decision has been made on whether she will accept the invitation, according to Seoul officials. (Yonhap)
