April 7, 2015 - 09:25 By KH디지털2

Samsung Electronics received a top prize in this year's environmental award organized by the U.S. government, becoming the first South Korean electronics company to receive the award for three consecutive years, the South Korean tech giant said Monday.

Samsung won the "sustained excellence" prize in the 2015 Energy Star Award organized by the Environmental Protection Agency, the company said in a statement. The honor is the highest prize given to companies credited for high energy-efficient products and energy-saving efforts, it said.

Samsung first received the award in 2013.

The company said that a total of 711 models of its products received "Energy Star" certificates for their energy efficiency in North American markets last year, with 84 models winning the "most efficient" grade.

Samsung also continued a campaign to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with a total of 2,572 people participating in the campaign and pledging to cut 33,567 tons of greenhouse gas emissions last year. Samsung started the "Change the World, Start with Energy Star" campaign in 2009. (Yonhap)
