Innolux outpaces Samsung Display in large-LCD market share

July 27, 2014 - 19:38 By Korea Herald
Taiwanese display maker Innolux saw its share of the large-sized liquid crystal display market outpace that of Samsung Display for the first time in the second quarter, data showed Sunday, mainly as the South Korean player focused on panels for smartphones.

Innolux’s global market share for 9.1-inch-and-wider LCD panels came to 20.2 percent in the April-June period, compared with the 18.7 percent posted by Samsung Display, the data compiled by industry researcher DisplaySearch showed.

The second-quarter figures compare with the 21.2 percent and 20.2 percent posted by Samsung Display and Innolux, respectively, in the first quarter of 2014. LG Display, in contrast, maintained its top spot for the 19th consecutive quarter by posting a 25.2 percent share in the April-June period.

Market watchers said Samsung Display’s weakening LCD business came as it focused more on manufacturing small-sized organic light-emitting diode panels supplied to its top business partner, Samsung Electronics, thus failing to respond promptly to the industry’s trends. (Yonhap)
