LG to showcase four low-end smartphones at MWC

Feb. 23, 2015 - 11:14 By KH디지털2

South Korea's No. 2 tech giant LG Electronics Inc. said Monday it will showcase four low-end smartphones at the Mobile World Congress in Spain next month, its newest effort to get ahead of Chinese and other mid-sized smartphone market players.

The company said it will introduce the LG Magna, LG Spirit, LG Leon and LG Joy at the MWC, all coming in two versions that support long-term evolution or the third-generation network. The MWC will run in Barcelona from March 2-5.

The 5-inch LG Magna, which boasts the highest spec of the four, will run on Google Inc.'s latest Android 5.0.0 Lollipop and come with a 8-megapixel camera on the rear and a 5-megapixel one on the front. Its battery capacity is 2,540 mAh.

The LG Spirit, LG Leon and LG Joy will come with a 4.7, 4.5 and 4.0-inch display, respectively, LG said.

The low-end models will still have LG's key unique features seen on high-end devices, including the "Gesture Shot," which allows users to take photos on a three-second timer by curling one's fingers into the palm while facing the camera.

The "Glance View" feature, first introduced in the curved-screen G Flex 2, will also be installed on the low-end models, allowing users to check information such as time, missed calls and messages by dragging their finger on the display from top to bottom, even when the screen is locked.

LG said the new models will be available in Brazil at end-February and taken gradually to other major markets including Europe. The firm has not yet revealed the detailed price tags.

Earlier this month, LG said it will debut the LG Watch Urbane, a lighter and smaller smartwatch compared to the previous LG G Watch R launched in October, that will be equipped with a 1.3-inch plastic organic light-emitting diode display and a 410mAh battery. (Yonhap)
