LG CNS, a leading IT service firm in Korea, said Thursday it has developed new smart-home solutions that allow users to control all home appliances via a single set-top box.
Based on Internet of Things technology, the solutions ― the first of their kind in Korea ― use a TV remote control or a smartphone to control all home appliances from lightbulbs to CCTVs and air conditioners.
The solutions, running on Google’s Android operating system, can also operate existing cable TV set-top boxes through system upgrades without replacing the equipment, the company said.
LG CNS has already started offering the solutions to local cable TV operators and plans to expand the applications.
“LG CNS has built its reputation as a leading IT system provider across industries. The company has secured competitiveness for the IoT era,” said Cho In-haeng, managing director.
“With the new solutions, we have paved the way for next smart-home service that is equipped with better compatibility and efficiency.”
