LG Electronics to unveil new smartphone with improved display

Jan. 6, 2011 - 10:49 By 문예빈
LG Electronics Inc., the beleaguered world's third-largest handset maker, said Thursday that it will introduce a new smartphone model with an enhanced screen display that has significantly lowered power consumption.

The Optimus Black is the company's first model to use a "NOVA" display, which cuts power consumption in half in comparison to previous products and features an enhanced visibility even in an outdoor setting, the company said in a statement. It can offer an uninterrupted voice call as many as eight hours long with an improved battery life.

The Android-running model, which is slated to be displayed during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, will hit the shelves in the global market before June, it said.

LG replaced its chief executive officer in October with a founding family member after its mobile business posted record loss in the third quarter. The company has since sold 1 million units of the Optimus One smartphone, LG's best-selling smartphone so far, in an effort to engineer a turnaround in its mobile business. (Yonhap News)
