More than a dozen flights were temporarily delayed Wednesday due to a glitch in the computer system of the air traffic center at Incheon International Airport, the government said Thursday.

No accidents or casualties were reported, but it resulted in several flight delays, according to the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs.

"The flight data processor did not function for 57 minutes Wednesday morning, causing delayed departures of 18 flights," a ministry official said.

The ministry immediately notified aviation authorities in neighboring Japan and China of the malfunction and requested them to delay departures of flights bound for the airport, the official said.

The ministry is trying to find the exact cause of the problem and also why an existing backup system did not start operating, he added.

Up to 120,000 people daily depart from or arrive at the Incheon airport, the main gateway to South Korea, which is located about 40 kilometers west of Seoul. (Yonhap News)
