Samsung refuses to confirm Apple’s proposal on patent litigation

March 7, 2012 - 21:16 By Korea Herald
Samsung Electronics on Wednesday said it was unable to confirm news reports that Apple put forward proposals to the firm that would settle some pending patent litigation cases.

“We can’t confirm the reports at this point, but it is not true that we held an emergency meeting of executives involving the issue and our position on the ongoing patent battle with Apple remains the same,” said a Samsung official.

On Wednesday, Dow Jones cited an anonymous source as saying that Apple made proposals to Samsung and Motorola Mobility to reach an agreement in some litigation cases in exchange for royalty payments to license its patents.

Samsung and Apple are currently engaged in about 30 different patent battles at courts in nine countries.

In the meantime, Samsung said it filed another infringement suit against Apple in a Seoul court on Monday, claiming that the U.S. firm’s iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 infringed three of its patents including a user interface related patent.

“We further plan to go forward with active measures to secure our patents in the future,” said a Samsung official.
