Hite-Jinro, Korea’s leading beer and soju maker said Wednesday that it has established a social contribution team, promising to more actively engage in charity works for the underprivileged in the society.
“As the top domestic brewery and liquor company, Hite-Jinro set up a social contribution team to boost contribution activities,” the company said in a statement.
“The team will also develop its own programs that reflect the company’s characteristics and match with its reputation,” said a company official.
Hite-Jinro has been pursing its scholarship program every year through its headquarters and branches along with giving out rice and making donation to low-income groups.
Last year, it used 5 percent of its profits on philanthropic activities. This year Hite-Jinro eagerly involves itself in social contribution activities including donation of 1 billion won to a welfare center for poor single parent families and funding for a program to safeguard children.
