Samsung’s Galaxy S sales pass 100 million mark

Jan. 14, 2013 - 20:51 By Korea Herald
Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S lineup has shipped more than 100 million units in less than three years since being launched in 2010, the company said on Monday.

Among the lineup consisting of Galaxy S, Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S3, the latest S3 has shipped more than 40 million just over half a year by selling an average 190,000 handsets a day worldwide.

The Galaxy S3 model promised to be a hot-seller, having passed the 10 million mark in just 50 days following its launch in May last year with new features such as voice-and-motion response,

The Galaxy S2 sold 40 million units, but over a longer stretch of time of around 20 months since its launch. The original Galaxy S has sold 25 million units in total, Samsung said.

“The key to our success was two decades’ worth of innovation and technology in the mobile phone and IT fields, which were coupled with distinguished marketing and solid after-sales service procedures,” the company said in a statement.

It also added that its partners in the business, including vendors, also helped the firm achieve “this significant accomplishment for the Korean IT industry.”

As of last year, Samsung Electronics beat out its global rivals, including Apple Inc., the maker of the iPhone, to attain dominance in the smartphone market and become the world’s top maker of mobile phones including smartphones.
