K-pop girl group KARA has received the top prize for a foreign pop group in what is known as the Chinese Grammy Awards, the group’s management agency said Friday.

The five-member group won “The Most Popular International Group” at the 17th China Music Awards (CMA) held in Macau on Thursday night, beating the famous British idol group, One Direction, and other K-pop groups such as Big Bang and 2NE1, DSP Media said.

“We are so honored to receive such a huge award. We promise to reward our Chinese fans soon,” said KARA in their acceptance speech. KARA performed their hit track “STEP” during the awards show.

Founded in 1994, CMA is the biggest music awards show in China. (Yonhap News)
