Girls' Generation tops Japanese weekly chart

Dec. 17, 2013 - 10:28 By 윤민식
K-pop group Girls' Generation topped a Japanese weekly albums chart for the first time in two and a half years, its management agency said Tuesday.

Released on Wednesday in Japan, the group's third full-length Japanese language album, "Love & Peace," rose to the top of the Oricon's weekly albums chart, with more than 129,000 copies sold in the first week, S.M. Entertainment said.

"Love & Peace" became the band's second album to take the honor since its eponymous debut album released in June 2011, "Girls' Generation." This also makes Girls' Generation the first South Korean girl group to have two of their albums top the Japanese weekly chart.

Last month, the group received the "Video of the Year" honors at the 2013 YouTube Awards for "I Got a Boy," beating out such stars as Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, One Direction and Psy.

Girls' Generation is scheduled to hold a solo concert, titled Marchen Fantasy, at the KINTEX convention center in Goyang, just northwest of Seoul, on Sunday. (Yonhap News)
