KBS1 TV’s travel documentary “Backpack Travel” won the Grand Prix award at the second Festival Asia TV & Film On Journey 2012 held in Japan, the broadcaster said.
The award winning episode, “Backpack Travel’s Mekong Delta, Vietnam” produced by director Ahn Sung-jin, was aired on Jan. 14.
The episode filmed the nature and lives of the inhabitants living in the lower Mekong Delta Region famous for its river that streams down from Tibet and flows through Southeast Asia and into the East China Sea.
Seventy programs and films from 12 countries including Korea, China, Russia, Australia, Malaysia and Japan participated in the festival held from Oct. 12-17 in Hokkaido,
“Backpack Travel” first aired on Nov. 5, 2005. Each episode is a one man planned, organized, traveled, scripted, filmed and edited TV show created from the views and perspectives of a lone backpack traveler.
The organizers of the festival in Hokkaido showed interest in purchasing the 300 episodes of “Backpack Travel” an associate of the program told The Korea Herald.
“Backpack Travel” airs on KBS1 at 9:40 a.m. every Saturday.
