Hana Bank donated 10,000 articles of clothing and materials to schools in need in Myanmar, the lender said Friday.

Charity foundation Sarangbat chairman Choi Sung-kyun and Myanmar ambassador to Seoul Soe Lwin attended the donation ceremony held on Dec. 18 in Seoul.

The materials were collected by Hana Bank employees, who have been sending clothing, stationery and recycled Hana Bank computers to Korea and nearby Asian countries since 2011.

In addition, Hana Bank started a plan to carry out a 300 million won ($273,000) philanthropy business supporting youth in underdeveloped regions in Myanmar and Myanmarese expats in Korea for the next three years.

For youths in need, the bank will build a Hana Happy Class ― a library and computer lab with classes ― once or twice a year, and for expats, the bank plans to hold cultural events, Korean classes and financial education.

During the ceremony, Hana Bank acting CEO Kim Byoung-ho said the bank would continue to work with their global neighbors. “I hope this ceremony will provide the chance to bond with the people in Myanmar and grow and share happiness.”
