Actor Song Joong-ki will return to the big screen in director Ryoo Seung-wan’s upcoming film “Battleship Island.”
The film will depict the story of 400 Koreans who were taken to Battleship Island -- also known as Hashima Island -- to carry out forced labor during the Japanese colonial era. They desperately try to escape from the island.
Song Joong-ki stars in “Descendants of the Sun” (KBS2)
Song will play the role of a soldier in the Korean Liberation Army fighting for Korea’s independence from Japan. He sneaks into the island to extricate a key person in the independence movement.
Filmmaker R&K and the public land development office of Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, signed on March 30 the lease for the land to be used for shooting the film.
The film company will set up a 6,600-square-meter filming site at a former U.S. Army camp in Chuncheon and begin filming at the end of May.
Actors Hwang Jung-min and So Ji-sub also star in the film.
