Rose Barwuah has to polish desks to make a living despite having one of Europe’s highest-paid athletes as a son.

The biological mother of multi-millionaire Italian footballer Mario Balotelli is working as an office cleaner, according to British media.

While Balotelli makes 120,000 British pounds ($187,000) a week, enjoying a lavish lifestyle of luxury cars, champagne and parties, Barwuah makes 6 pounds an hour, and has to ride a bus to get to work.

Barwuah and her husband Thomas had to give up Balotelli when he was only two years old, because their son had developed a life-threatening intestinal condition that worsened under their poor living conditions.

In recent years, Barwuah had been trying to mend bonds with her now world-famous son. She moved to the Manchester area last Christmas to be close to the Manchester City striker.

However, she claims she is not after her son’s riches.

“When she (Barwuah) came over from Italy with her daughter, Rose, she said she wanted to be close to her son and didn‘t want any of the huge wealth or luxury he now enjoys,” said a source cited by the Daily Mail newspaper.

Balotelli has reportedly visited Barwuah’s home several times, providing quite a sight for the neighbors by showing up in his white 120,000-pound Bentley.

발로텔리의 생모는 출퇴근하기 위해 대중 버스 11번을 매일 아침 타고 다니며 맨체스터 인근 공공 임대아파트에서 살고 있다.

발로텔리는 이탈리아 인터 밀란 소속이었으나 2010년 맨체스터 시티로 이적했다.

발로텔리의 부모는 가나의 이민자들로 1990년 이탈리아 팔레르모에서 발로텔리를 낳았으며, 발로텔리가 어릴 적 장합병증으로 여러 차례 수술을 받고 생활고에 시달리자 그가 세 살 때 입양시켰다.

발로텔리의 생모 로즈는 지난해 겨울 맨체스터 인근으로 이사를 했으며, 발로텔리에게 전혀 부담을 주지 않겠다고 말해왔다.
