Myeong-dong and Mount Nam have been chosen as Seoul’s biggest tourist attractions, according to a survey released Friday.

Through the survey, Seoul Metropolitan Government found that Mount Nam’s tradition of hanging a lock with a significant other on the lookout platform fence was the most popular activity for foreigners.

Of the 1,849 tourists surveyed in the study, 16 percent voted Mount Nam as Seoul’s most attractive location for its romantic ambience.

Another 13.4 percent of the foreigners found that the shopping district, Myeong-dong, was the most attractive spot, especially for purchasing Korean brand name cosmetics.

The two locations were followed by the changing of the royal guards ceremony at Gyeongbok Palace.

Others included on the list was the Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market and the National Museum of Korea.

The list also varied according to the native language of the tourist.

Tourists from English speaking countries voted Gyeongbok Palace as their favorite, while Chinese picked Mount Nam.

The survey was conducted last month through the capital’s homepage with 534 participants from English speaking countries, 1,080 from Chinese speaking countries and 235 from Japan.
