Nuclear power experts and industry officials from around the world will gather in South Korea early next year to discuss nuclear security and safe use of nuclear energy ahead of a global nuclear summit, the foreign ministry said Saturday.
They will attend the Nuclear Power Industry Summit which will be held on March 23 in Seoul, with around 100 people along with major global organizations participating, according to the ministry.
The gathering will precede the 50-country Nuclear Security Summit, which will kick off on March 26 for a two-day run in Seoul, the ministry added.
Officials from such groups as the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Nuclear Energy Agency will join the gathering.
At the end of the meeting, they will announce a joint statement focused on what roles the nuclear industry has to play in enhancing safety and security. It will be submitted to leaders who will attend the Seoul nuclear summit, the ministry said.
