S. Korea denies reports on summit in Japan's Fukushima

May 14, 2011 - 16:10 By 송상호
South Korea denied a Japanese news report Saturday that it has agreed to hold next week's summit with Japan and China at Japan's tsunami-hit area of Fukushima where a nuclear crisis is continuing despite months of efforts to curb it.

In a message to reporters, Seoul's foreign ministry said the Kyodo news agency report is wrong and that the government is still considering whether to agree to Japan's proposal to hold the Saturday-Sunday summit in Fukushima.

Areas within 80 kilometers of the Daiichi nuclear plant have been evacuated and cordoned off after its reactors went out of control in the wake of a deadly earthquake and tsunami off Japan's east coast on March 11.

China also has yet to respond to Japan's proposal to hold the tripartite summit in the region. (Yonhap News)
