An elderly woman who lived alone was found dead in her apartment a month after she died.

An official from Daegu District Court found the 64-year-old woman’s body while visiting her house to conduct a property auction procedure on Wednesday.

The woman, identified by her surname Kim, had reportedly suffered from economic difficulties and recently had her apartment auctioned off.

Although she expressed her wish to donate her body for medical research in an apparent suicide note, the corpse was too severely decomposed to donate.

“I am sorry. I am alone. Donate my dead body,” the note read.

A neighbor who resides at the same apartment knocked on Kim’s door and phoned her but did not realize she had died.

“A telephone record shows that her last call was made in December last year. There is no bereaved family,” an investigator from Daegu police station said.

The police assume that Kim took her own life about a month ago, considering the condition of the body. Further investigation is under way to identify the exact cause of her death.

‘시신 기증해 달라던’女, 자살 한달 만에 발견

홀로 살아온 60대 여성이 숨진 지 한 달여 만에 발견됐다.

9일 오후 3시께 대구 수성구 한 아파트에서 김모(64•여)씨가 목을 매 숨져 있는 것을 경매절차를 집행하기 위해 찾아온 대구지법 공무원이 발견했다.

김씨는 결혼 하지 않고 홀로 지내다가 최근에는 아파트가 경매에 넘어가는 등 경제적 사정이 어려웠던 것으로 알려졌다.

김씨는 유서에서 마지막 선행으로 장기를 기증할 의사도 밝혔으나 시신 부패가 심해 주위의 안타까움을 더했다.

유서에는 '죄송합니다. 혼자입니다. (시신 기증)'라고 적혀 있었다.

김씨와 알고 지낸 한 아파트 주민은 최근 김씨가 보이질 않자 문을 두들겨 보거나 전화를 해보는 등 연락을 취했으나 김씨의 죽음을 알아차리진 못했다.

대구 수성경찰서 한 수사관계자는 "지난해 12월 지인과의 통화기록이 마지막"이 라며 "유족은 아무도 없다"고 전했다.

경찰은 시신 부패 상태로 보아 김씨가 한달 여 전 스스로 목숨을 끊은 것으로 보고 정확한 사인을 조사 중이다.
