TV channel for dogs launched in US

A television channel designed specifically to be watched by dogs Monday in San Diego for stay-home-canines while the owners are away at work or too busy to play.

The first and only television network for dogs, DOGTV, scientifically developed and tested for four years, DOGTV, “a new channel for man‘s best friend,” launches on Cox and Time Warner Cable.

“Loving our dogs so much, we feel guilty when we leave them home alone, the channel’s programming not only entertains canines, but studies show it relaxes and stimulates dogs, keeping them healthier and more content.” Gilad Neumann, CEO of DOGTV.

DOGTV‘s three types of programming offer relaxing and stimulating content as well as positive behavioral reinforcements.

“Animals need visual and auditory simulation throughout the day. DOGTV presents a breakthrough with programming that is created specifically for dogs,” said Dr. Nicholas H. Dodman.

DOGTV will be available on a subscription basis for a low monthly fee, $4.99 per month.

이제 사람만 TV를 보는 시대는 지났다.

15일(미국 현지시간) 로이터통신 등 외신에 따르면 미국 샌디에이고에서 지난 1 3일 개들을 위한 TV를 표방한 케이블방송 '도그TV(DogTV)'가 첫 전파를 탔다.

도그TV는 주인이 일하러 간 뒤 홀로 집에 있는 개를 주 시청 대상으로 잡았다.

경영진은 개 심리학자와 행동전문가들이 약 400시간에 걸쳐 개의 취향을 연구한 결과를 바탕으로 프로그램을 편성했다.

견공들은 애니메이션 '스폰지밥'과 하프 연주를 유난히 좋아하며, '베벌리힐스 치와와'같이 개들이 등장하는 프로그램도 즐기는 것으로 나타났다.

도그TV는 또 개의 시각으로 본 차창 밖 풍경에 느린 피아노 음악을 입힌 영상이 나, 개가 헐떡거리며 공을 갖고 노는 장면을 낮은 앵글로 잡은 동영상 등도 내보내고 있다.

이 방송을 틀어놓았다는 개 놀이시설 피도앤드컴퍼니 측은 화면의 색감이 일반적인 TV와 다르고, 내용도 개의 시각에서 만들어졌다며 긍정적으로 평가했다.

그러나 도그TV에는 여느 방송과 달리 광고가 전혀 나오지 않는다.

길리어드 뉴먼 도그TV 최고경영자는 "우리 시청자는 물건을 살 수가 없어 광고는 어렵다"며 "프로그램은 100% 개들을 위한 것"이라고 강조했다.

이스라엘계 방송사업자들이 기획한 도그TV는 당분간 무료로 채널로 운영하되, 앞으로 월 시청료 4.99달러(약 5천600원)를 받을 계획이다.

미국애완용품제조협회에 따르면 미국인이 2009년 한 해 애완동물에 쓴 돈은 450 억달러에 이른다.
