Nov. 11, 2015 - 14:42 By KH디지털2

Hyundai Motor Co. and its smaller affiliate Kia Motors Corp. saw their market share in Russia stay over 20 percent in October despite the overall slump in demand, industry data showed Wednesday.

According to the data by a European business association, Kia Motors sold a total of 14,422 units in Russia last month, the second largest following a local carmaker. Hyundai Motor ranked third by selling 14,145 units.

Sales of Kia Motors and Hyundai Motor shrank 17 percent and 8 percent, respectively, from a year earlier. But the decline was not as bad as a 38.5 percent plunge in total demand during the cited month.

Kia Motors cars accounted for 11.1 percent of total sales in October there, with the corresponding figure for Hyundai Motor standing at 10.9 percent.

Their combined market share stood at 22 percent, a slight decline from the previous month's all-time high of 22.1 percent.

During the January-October period, the share based on their cumulative sales came to 20.2 percent, the data showed. (Yonhap)
