Nov. 22, 2015 - 13:14 By KH디지털2

Samsung SDI Co., the battery-making unit of Samsung Group, will supply batteries for a newly launched electric vehicle of China's JAC Motors Co., company officials said Sunday.

On Friday, the Chinese auto manufacturer unveiled its new iEV6S electric car at the ongoing Guangzhou motor show set to end later Sunday.

Under the supply deal, the South Korean company is expected to provide millions of units of small, circular battery cells each month that will power China's first electric vehicle that can travel over 250 kilometers on a single charge.

"The company will start supplying circular batteries, in addition to square-shaped batteries, as it seeks to maintain its leadership in China's growing electric vehicle market," company chief Cho Nam-seong said in a press release.

JAC Motors is one of China's 10 largest automakers with annual sales of some 500,000 cars last year. Samsung SDI is already supplying batteries to China's Yutong Group, the world's largest bus manufacturer, and China's largest truck manufacturer Foton Motor Co. (Yonhap)
