CINCINNATI (AP) ― Bronson Arroyo limited the NL’s most prolific offense to four singles in eight innings, and Jay Bruce had a two-run homer among his three hits, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night.
The Reds have three shutouts in their last four games. They’ve blanked six of their last 21 opponents, tying them for the league lead with nine shutouts this season.
Arroyo (6-5) allowed only one runner to reach second base. Aroldis Chapman got his 15th save in 17 chances.
Bruce scored on Todd Frazier’s single in the fourth inning off Tyler Chatwood (3-1). He hit his ninth homer off left-hander Josh Outman in the eighth.
Dodgers 2, Padres 1
LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Adrian Gonzalez and Scott Van Slyke homered, Yasiel Puig had a successful major league debut and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres 2-1 on Monday night.
Stephen Fife (1-0) allowed one run and five hits in 5 1/3 innings to earn his first major league win. The right-hander was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque earlier in the day to replace left-hander Chris Capuano, who was scratched because of a strained left triceps.
Yankees 7, Indians 4
NEW YORK (AP) ― Mark Teixeira raised his fist as he rounded first base after his ball landed in the cap of a young fan standing in the front row beyond the right field wall.
That grand slam was big ― not only for his recovery from a wrist injury but for his slumping squad’s confidence.
Teixeira hit his first homer of the season, Brett Gardner had a tiebreaking single in the sixth inning and the New York Yankees beat the Cleveland Indians 7-4 Monday night to spoil Nick Swisher’s first game back in the Bronx.
