TOPIK registration opens Saturday

Applications for the Test of Proficiency in Korean begin Saturday.

The TOPIK takes place on Jan. 29 and covers listening, reading, grammar and writing.

The test is available in three grades. Beginner (levels 1 and 2) and advanced (levels 5 and 6) exams take place at 9 a.m. The intermediate exam for levels 3 and 4 starts at 2 p.m.

Tests cost 40,000 won and last 3 hours altogether, with two sections, one for vocabulary, grammar and writing and the other for listening and reading. There is no restriction on taking the intermediate test as well as the beginner or advanced level test.

There is no speaking section, although one is planned until 2015.
