A Chinese portal website has opened an online platform that publishes South Korean news to help expand exchange between the two countries, its local affiliate said Thursday.

Renghuangwang (http://www.ifeng.com) has opened the news site (http://kr.ifeng.com), becoming the first Chinese portal to do so with the purpose of boosting exchange, Renghwangwang Korea Media said, adding the service is also available as a smartphone app.

The portal owned by Phoenix New Media is the fifth-most visited website in China with an average of 150 million visitors and 1 billion page views a day.

The South Korea news website will cover a wide range of topics, from economy and travel to entertainment, fashion and entrepreneurship.

"Lack of information has hindered the mutual development of South Korea and China even though trade has increased exponentially," Renghwangwang Korea Media said in a statement. "The purpose of this news website is to expand business and cultural exchange by providing stories that analyze current issues from many angles." (Yonhap)
