Hong Sang-pyo, former senior presidential secretary for public affairs, was named to head state-run Korea Creative Content Agency, the Ministry of Culture said on Friday.

Hong will lead the agency for the next three years.

“The new KOCCA president Hong is a former journalist who worked for YTN for many years and has proved both his marketing and management skills,” the ministry said in a statement.

“Also with his experience in public service and his accumulated personal network, Hong is expected to improve the reputation of KOCCA,” it added.

Established in 2009, the agency supports various areas for content development including computer games, broadcasting and pop music.

Hong graduated in political science from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in 1983 and worked as a reporter for the Yonhap news agency from 1982 to 1996. In 1996, he moved to YTN, a cable news channel, and took various posts including head of news and head of marketing. He served as a senior presidential secretary from July 2010 to June 2011.
