Gwangju International Center will be organizing a trip to Gochang for the first GIC Tour of the year.

The day trip, led by local expat Warren Parsons, leaves the center at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The first stop on the tour will be Sonunsa, one of South Korea’s most important temples. It boasts a gigantic rock-face Buddha carving and incredible natural scenery.

Gochang is famous for eels, bokbunja and jakseol tea and the tour will make a lunch stop for some eel soup before moving on to Gochang Dolmen Park.

The park is a registered UNESCO World Heritage Site and has more dolmens per square kilometer than anywhere in the world.

There is another dolmen at the center of the next stop, Gochang Fortress. But the site is more famous for its 600-year-old walls, which are a popular walking route.

The fortress also has a bamboo forest and several reconstructed buildings.

The tour costs 35,000 won for GIC members and 45,000 won for non-members.
