미국 하버드대학교 학생들이 우주로 보내려던 역사 상 첫번째 햄버거가 어디로 사라졌는지 확실치 않다고 밝혔다. 그들은 다람쥐가 먹었을 것으로 예상한다고 밝혔다.

햄버거는 지난 달 헬륨 풍선에 배달려 우주로 날아갔다. 그러나 풍선이 다시 땅으로 내려와 매사추세츠 주의 큰 나무에 걸리면서 상자에서 햄버거가 사라졌다고 밝혔다.

렌조 루시오니(Renzo Lucioni)는 더보스톤글로브(The Boston Globe)지에 30미터 높이에 있던 바람이 다 빠진 풍선을 가져오기 위해 정원사를 고용해야 했다고 밝혔다. 풍선을 가져왔으나 햄버거는 사라지고 없었다. 루시오니는 다람쥐가 가져갔을 거라고 말했다.

풍선에 달려있던 카메라는 햄버거가 사라지기 전에 꺼져버렸다. 따라서 햄버거의 미스터리를 푸는 데 도움이 되지 못했다. 그러나 카메라는 ’b.good’ 햄버거 체인점이 기부한 햄버거가 떠오르는 구름과 상공을 배경으로 하여 찍힌 멋진 사진들을 담고 있었다.

해당 동영상은 유투브에서 일주일 미만의 기간 동안 15만 건 이상의 조회수를 기록했다고 글로브 지는 전했다.

루시오니 팀은 또다른 풍선 미션을 통해 기록을 세우고 싶다고 밝혔다. 현재 목표는 우주에 떠오른 최초의 부리또이지만 아직 정해진 것은 없다고 말했다. (코리아헤럴드)

Hamburger takes balloon ride into space


A group of Harvard students say they aren‘t sure what happened to the first hamburger to be launched into space, but they suspect a squirrel made off with it.

The burger was carried into space last month aboard a helium balloon and was missing from its container when the balloon fell back to earth and landed in a tall tree in Massachusetts.

Renzo Lucioni told The Boston Globe he and his colleagues had to hire a tree trimmer to go up the 100-foot tree and retrieve the deflated balloon, but the sandwich was gone. Lucioni told the newspaper a lucky squirrel might have dragged it off.

A camera aboard the balloon had gone dead before the burger disappeared so it offered no help in cracking the mystery. The camera, however, did catch great images of the hamburger, donated by the burger chain b.good, soaring into the clouds and on to the upper reaches of the atmosphere.

The YouTube video went viral with more than 150,000 views in less than a week, the Globe said.

Lucioni and his team want to follow up their landmark achievement with another balloon mission. The current goal is the first burrito in space, but nothing official has been nailed down. (UPI)
