Ryu Hyun-jin of the Los Angeles Dodgers lost his final regular season start on Sunday, going just four innings against the Colorado Rockies for his shortest outing of 2013.
At Dodger Stadium, Ryu gave up two earned runs on eight hits and a walk against the Rockies, as Colorado took the game 2-1.
Scott Van Slyke pinch-hit for Ryu in the bottom of the fourth with the Dodgers trailing 2-0. The South Korean lefty needed 76 pitches to get through four innings.
Despite one of his shakiest starts of 2013, Ryu ended his otherwise solid rookie season at 14-8 with a 3.00 ERA in 192 innings, with 154 strikeouts and 49 walks.
He finished first among National League (NL) rookies in innings pitched and second in victories and ERA.
For the first time in his 30 regular season starts, Ryu failed to last at least five innings. He gave up a bases-loaded single to Troy Tulowitzki in the top first, after giving up a walk and two straight singles to start the game. Ryu then got three quick outs to avoid further damage.
Ryu also looked shaky in the top second but worked around a double by the Colorado pitcher Jeff Francis.
After retiring the side in order in the top third, Ryu got into more trouble in the top fourth, as Charlie Blackmon's one-out single made it a 2-0 game.
The Dodgers, with the NL West crown already in the bag, didn't need to push their struggling starter in this game. They will face the Atlanta Braves, the NL East champs, in the division series starting on Thursday, and Ryu is expected to start Game 3 scheduled for Sunday at Dodger Stadium. (Yonhap News)
