Gwangju International Center is running a GIC Tour on June 30 to Wando, an Island on Korea’s southwestern tip.
The tour will visit the site of Cheonghaejin, a key military base and trade port linking the peninsula to China and Japan.
The site was discovered in 1959 when a typhoon left some artifacts exposed.
Participants will stop off on the way at the Chang Po-go Memorial Hall, dedicated to the founder of Cheonhaejin, who used it to clear the area of pirates.
After a lunch of “hoe” (sliced raw fish) and spicy seafood soup, the group will go to Myungsasimni, a beach located at the center of Dadohaehaesang National Park.
The tour costs 40,000 won for GIC members, 50,000 won for non-members and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
